Zenit 3M is a Kristall which top cover has been restyled. This is the latest incarnation before Zenit E, the layout of controls is the same.
The cover is in embossed metal, 20g more than the Kristall. This camera has received a shock, but the mechanism is in perfect working condition. The cocking is very smooth and while shooting the only noise is the one of the shutter, the mirror motion is very discreet.
The mirror has a trapezoid shape.
The "string" mechanism for the descent of the mirror has been replaced by a set of levers driven by a pinion of the cocking mechanism. The pentaprism is wedged by small cardboard pieces instead of the usual foam.
The left one is the only one (among mine) not to be battered! The one on the right, provided "for parts" is incomplete, miss the return-spring of the cocking lever and the shoe (it borrowed the one from another camera for the photo); it's the only one with Cyrillic marking. The 1959 Industar-50 went on the Zenit-S of the same year, I bought the other one for $ 5 on eBay January 31, 2010 (very nice after cleaning ...)So if I summarize, the left camera has now the lens of the right one and the right camera joined the drawer, without lens!
Irina had put on this camera intended for Christophe a wrong lens (a black Industar-50 for Zorki). I ordered a Helios 44 for fitting, so he will have an Industar-50 (with his Zenit-S) and an Helios 44, in M39.Body and lens are reviewed and lubricated by me.
This camera was sold for parts, without lens. In fact, the shutter just needed a little drop of grease solvent. It presents the unusual feature of being only marked Zenit.
Rather uncommon version, with the KMZ logo on the front. The body has been repainted in matte black.
