ZENIT S

Back Language

Zenit S, bought by Christophe on Leboncoin.fr.

The first Zenit had a weaknes in the mechanism for descent of the mirror. The Zenit "S" replaced it with two improvements: the cord to down the mirror, and a Flash socket, with adjustable synchronization delay.

Zenit
This camera has unfortunately lost its original mirror, possibly broken, and replaced by a piece of pocket mirror (this cannot work, the silvering is not on the right side).

The seller's name is Alexandre Mouromtsev, here's what he tells about this camera:
"In 1963 I was in Crimea, more precisely in Simféropol. I lived here with my family since 1957. Knowing very well French I have been asked by responsible persons in a sports organization to act as interpreter during a meeting on the city velodrome, at which took part teams from the GDR, Czechoslovakia, France and the USSR. One member of the French team, Michel CAZALS, champion de France FSGT on track at the time, brought as a souvenir of his stay in the USSR this camera. Since 1995 I live in France permanently and I have, since this year 1963, always maintained a friendly contact with this former cyclist champion . Not long ago he offered me this Zenit, but as I'm not a collector I preferred to let an amateur enjoy it."

Two other Zenit S, in Irina's parcel of november 2009.

Deux Zenit S

At least, these ones have their mirror!
Among the two 1959 Zenit-S arrived in November, one was for Christophe and has already joined his showcase, the other was "for parts", but all three are fully functional after a little revision.
