For this FED 2, I proposed to my "client" to use the curtains of one of my FED 5 wrecks(see above the replacement of the exposure meter of a FED 5s in October 2012). It is what I had already done for a FED 4.
Here is this shutter collected.
And the FED 2 disassembled, shutter removed.
Mechanically, it is new, only the rubber of the curtains has dried and cracked.
The "new" curtains presented in front of the original drum (the drum of FED 5 is not compatible, the shafts are different).
The tool designed for FED 1 is not suitable, the lengths of shafts are different , the 3D printer will have to run.
A new support on the right side (on the left, I have for the moment been satisfied with a piece of paper as a wedge!) and the curtains being aligned.
Another 3D print, a "cover" allowing to close (at the top) a FED 5 shutter shell, to test the sticking of the curtains in an almost real situation.
Here, it works...
... and of course, when reassembling, another shift! (I understood why, I will print some additional tool parts!).
In short, here, it is reassembled and functional!
Meanwhile, I printed guides for my shutter tester; here with a FED 5, this support will be compatible with FED 2, 3 and 4 (and maybe some Zorki and Zenit).
The only limitation is that the selftimer lever should not be reinstalled immediately. By cons, the camera being reassembled, I can check the rangefinder (perfect!).
Here, I managed to balance the curtains speed at 1/60s, on this model the imbalance increases very quickly when you increase or decrease the speed. On my Zarya, which has the same shutter, I had not done better.
No lens to service, this Fed 2 rejoined his brother FED 1 in the parcel, en route to Spain!
